Loss of FHIT expression is commonly associated with hypermethylation of the gene, and frequent FHIT hypermethylation has been reported in hepatocellular carcinomas[12], and in carcinomas of the larynx[13], breast[14], lung[14], cervix[15], vulva[16], and kidney[17]. The gene discussed is FHIT; the disease is hepatocellular carcinoma.
