Obese individuals carrying the “at-risk” VDR GTA genotype showed higher LPS plasma concentrations than obese subjects with the “protective” ACC haplotype (p< 0.05) suggesting a correlation between obesity and microbial translocation that could be responsible for the maintenance of the inflammatory state at systemic level (Figure 3). Here, VDR is linked to obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
