A recent study of Sand et al. [21] on gene variants of glial cell-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) and brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) in tinnitus patients provided interesting links between coping skills and the degree of tinnitus-related distress; BDNF Val66Met gene has been further the object of extensive investigations in sensitivity to stress and adaptation to stress [22] and empirical data support its additional roles in the processing of auditory information [23] and in the tinnitus severity in women [24].
