This is in line with a study conducted earlier by Cangemi et al. that described the augmented concentrations of fibulin-1 in arterial walls and in plasma of type 2 diabetic patients, and may propose vascular extracellular matrix turnover as shown by their association between fibulin-1 and arteriosclerosis or arterial stiffness [11].
