According to a very recent study by our group [23], using complete blood count, platelet count, serum alpha-fetoprotein level, abdominal ultrasound, and abdominal CT at the baseline and for every six months up to the end of a mean±SD follow-up of 23.5±9.7 months in 15 patients (six men) with a mean±SD age of 45.1±14.9 years, who were treated by HSC or MSC therapy for liver cirrhosis, none of the patients developed evidence of leukemia nor liver tumor, nor other intra-abdominal tumors. Here, AFP is linked to leukemia.
