Although merlin interacts with a high number of different molecules (for detailed review see [22]) in different locations of the cell, we still conclude that part of merlin’s tumor suppressor activity is at the plasma membrane - mediating contact inhibition of proliferation by regulating several small GTPases like Ras or the Rho GTPase family, as well as the Hippo pathway [23].
