Moreover, our study i) introduces the novel concept of blocking iBCSCs through targeting the NF-κB-stemness gene pathway, ii) reports the finding that IR, delivered locally to the primary mammary tumors, promotes distant lung metastasis in mice, and iii) contributes to a paradigm shift in understanding of the importance of targeting CSCs and blocking the formation of radiation induced CSCs in RT of cancers, and therefore leading to the next generation of radiotherapy.
