Intact PTH levels measured at 24 hours after total thyroidectomy with a cut-off value of 5.8 pg/mL, ruled out permanent hypoparathyroidism more accurately (sensitivity 100%; specificity, 81.5%) than calcium levels (cut-off value 1.95 mmol/L, sensitivity, 60%; specificity, 78.5%) and recommended postoperative iPTH for evaluating the risk for developing permanent hypoparathyroidism[25]. This evidence concerns the gene PTH and hypoparathyroidism.
