In our study, 7% of the patients were cryptococcal antigen positive without overt signs of meningitis which is similar to previously reported rates in hospitalized patients in Uganda [30] and not significantly different from the prevalence in ART initiation cohorts (CD4<100 cells/μl) in SSA (Uganda 8.2% [21], South Africa 8.8% [20]). The gene discussed is CD4; the disease is infectious meningitis.
