In particular, the work Hoff and Halbritter et al. [13] has placed ANKS6 as a central node in a network of nephronophthisis (NPHP)-associated proteins, including direct binding between the ankyrin-repeat domain of ANKS6 and NEK8, a NimA (never in mitosis A)-related serine-threonine kinase which is mutated in nephronophthisis. The gene discussed is MARK2; the disease is nephronophthisis.
