BAX inhibitor (BI) is a membrane-bound protein that blocks the activity of BAX protein by an unknown mechanism leading to the suppression of cell death processes induced during fungal infections, by fungal toxins, salicylic acid, reactive oxygen species and during ER stress (Hückelhoven et al. 2003; Watanabe and Lam 2008). The gene discussed is BAX; the disease is fungal infectious disease.
