Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is characterized by the accumulation of extracellular amyloid-beta (Aβ) plaques and intracellular neurofibrillary tangles (tau pathology), which are reflected by lower Aβ, and higher total tau (tau) and tau phosphorylated at threonine 181 (ptau) in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) [1]. The gene discussed is MAPT; the disease is early-onset autosomal dominant Alzheimer disease.
