Since the lower IFN-γ quantity detected in the advanced pathological livers might be a direct consequence of the low intrahepatic frequencies of cells responding to ssRNA40, we characterized the composition of liver-derived cells in samples from both end-stage liver diseases and in less advanced liver pathologies, such as chronic hepatitis B. In the latter, low cell numbers have severely limited our analysis only to the frequencies of MAIT cells. The gene discussed is IFNG; the disease is liver disorder.
