Several studies have also found an association between the IL-6 −174 G>C polymorphism and serum lipid concentrations, independent of obesity, with most showing the −174 G allele to be associated with higher total cholesterol (T-C), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and triglyceride (TAG) concentrations [6,8,15], and lower high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) concentrations [8,16]. The gene discussed is IL6; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
