Although both salivary MIP-1α and IL-1β were elevated in subjects with periodontitis in this study, the level of MIP-1α is considered to be a more sensitive biomarker for periodontitis as levels of salivary MIP-1α were increased 50-fold in contrast to the mere 5-fold elevation of IL-1β [89]. The gene discussed is CCL3; the disease is periodontitis.
