The CCKAR gene, which codes for receptors of cholecystokinin, has been previously suggested to sustain schizophrenia pathogenesis by mediating the availability of mesolimbic dopamine, although it has recently been found to be associated with AVH beyond the schizophrenia spectrum.64 Further evidence for the genetic basis of hallucinations can be observed in relation to genes linked to different dimensions of language and audition. The gene discussed is CCKAR; the disease is schizophrenia.
