This study reported a significant interaction between a common genetic variant in the glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide receptor gene (GIPR), quintiles of carbohydrate intake (P = 0.0005), and incident type 2 diabetes [14] with a sex-specific interaction between a variant in the insulin receptor substrate 1 gene (rs2943641), intake of carbohydrates, and incident type 2 diabetes [15]. This evidence concerns the gene IRS1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
