In a recent study, researchers suggested that miR-200c overexpression downregulates transmembrane mucins MUC4 and MUC16 in pancreatic cancer cells by directly targeting the mRNA coding sequence of each, resulting in reduced levels of MUC4 and MUC16 mRNA and protein, which are associated with tumor progression and metastatic potential in human PDAC [50]. The gene discussed is MUC16; the disease is pancreatic neoplasm.
