When we added more SNPs to the S, P values tended to increase; that is, adding additional markers introduces noise to the S. In allergic asthma, the smallest P values were obtained for a sum of 5 SNPs (the GPX1 P198L, CAT −21A>T, EPHX1 H139R, GCLM −588C>T, and IL5 C-703T) for men and a sum of 3 SNPs (the EPHX1 Y113H, NQO1 R139W, and IL5 C-703T) for women (Figure 1).
