Following this approach, our group found that murine bone marrow (BM) contains a mobile population of Sca-1+lin−CD45− cells that express Oct-4+ known as very small embryonic-like stem cells (VSELs), which are mobilized into peripheral blood (PB) in a murine stroke model [8] as well as in patients suffering from stroke [9].
