This hypothesis is consistent with several reports stating that the downregulation of α2,6-sialyltransferase ST6Gal I inhibited cell adhesion to collagen and that, conversely, the hypersialylation of the β1 integrin subunit with α2,6-sialic acid promoted adhesion to collagen of several cancer cells [64], [65], [66].
