First, pulmonary inflammation is observed in 20% of SIDS victims (Blood‐Siegfried et al. 2002, 2004; Prandota 2004; Vege and Ole Rognum 2004; Kinney and Thach 2009) and upregulation of inflammatory mediators, such as IL‐1β and substance P, is assumed to be responsible for SIDS (Jordan et al. 1997; Froen et al. 2000; Balan et al. 2011). The gene discussed is TAC1; the disease is sudden infant death syndrome.
