Obesity is associated with chronic low-grade inflammation through expansion of white adipose tissue (WAT), a lipid storage organ that secretes leptin, adiponectin, and adipokines such as interleukin (IL)-6, IL-1β, and TNF-α [1, 2]; in addition, hypertrophic adipocytes secrete chemoattractants such as monocyte chemoattractant protein (MCP-1) that promotes immune cells infiltration into WAT. The gene discussed is TNF; the disease is obesity disorder.
