In 2012, another GWAS in Japanese populations revealed that rs515071 in ANK1 was associated with T2D at the genome-wide significance level [31]. ANK1, which encodes a member of the ankyrin family, is also reported to be associated with impaired insulin secretion and abnormal level of HbA1c [68, 78]. This evidence concerns the gene ANK1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
