In a highly parallel manner we also demonstrated that the mitochondrial protective peptide SS31 attenuates cardiac hypertrophy and diastolic dysfunction induced by chronic Angiotensin II, and the heart failure phenotypes induced by overexpression of Gαq or transverse aortic constriction (See section Mitochondrial protective strategies as potential therapeutics for aging-related diseases). The gene discussed is GNAQ; the disease is heart failure.
