AQP4 and myeloid sarcoma: In post-mortem brain slices of patients with Balo’s disease, a demyelinating condition similar to MS, immunostaining revealed reductions in Cx43, Cx32, Cx37, and AQP4 in concentric lesions, but no reactivity of anti-Cx or anti-AQP4 antibodies were detected (Masaki et al., 2012), suggesting that down regulation of these membrane proteins was likely to contribute to the neuro-pathogenesis of disease but may not be the cause.
