HMGA1 and colonic neoplasm: Very recently, Belton and colleagues (14) reported that HMGA1 overexpression induces cell proliferation and polyp formation in the intestines of HMGA1 transgenic mice and leads to metastatic progression and stem cell-like properties in colon cancer cells (14), suggesting that HMGA1 is a key regulator both in metastatic progression and in the maintenance of a stem cell-like state (14).
