Although the crude association of the TPA and PAI-1 polymorphisms with MS in a pooled sample (Serbian, BH, Croatian, and Slovenian) did not reveal a significant association after adjusting the ORs for gender, the TPA DD genotype was shown to be significantly protective (OR = 0.79, 95% CI 0.63–0.99, P = 0.037) and the PAI-1 5G5G genotype was shown to be a significant risk factor (OR = 1.30, 95% CI 1.01–1.66, P = 0.038) for MS (Figure 1).
