Ciriello et al. [56], in summarizing the ICGC and TCGA oncogenic signatures from over 3000 tumors, concluded that cancers generally fall into one of two classifications; “M” class cancers with, often large numbers of somatic mutations, and the “C” class with chromosomal abnormalities and fewer variants but which often involve somatic mutations in TP53, the likely cause of the genomic instability [65].
