FXTAS is a progressive movement disorder seen in older males in or beyond the sixth decade in life (2,12,13), with the preponderance of evidence to date indicating a pathogenic mechanism involving ‘toxicity’ (functional cellular impairment) of the expanded CGG-repeat element within the FMR1 mRNA (2,14). Here, FMR1 is linked to fragile X-associated tremor/ataxia syndrome.
