Beside the antiprotease activity, a high degree of functional pleiotropy has been associated with SB3, including involvement in tissue remodeling during fibrosis associated to autoimmune diseases [6, 38], induction of TGF-β [39, 40] and of the oncogene Myc [41] and hepatocyte proliferation after partial hepatectomy [33]. This evidence concerns the gene TGFB1 and autoimmune disease.
