IAPP and infection: Since human-rat amylin aggregates allow one to study easily the role of sequence and conformation similarity in cross-seeding, we suggest to use these aggregates as model systems for amyloid aggregation induced by cross seeding of an amyloidogenic protein of one species administered into another species, or when simultaneous presence of more than one amyloid form is responsible for infection and toxicity [9], [79], [80], [81], [82].
