The first study which showed how the p53 status affects the effects of Plk1 inhibition revealed that normal non-transformed MCF10A and hTERT-RPE1 cells tolerate depletion of Plk1 pretty well compared to different cancer cell lines, and that co-depletion of p53 in MCF10A cells rendered them to be extremely sensitive to Plk1 inhibition [51].
