Nestin/GFAP positive immunostaining revealed a large number of radial glial cells extending from the SVZ towards the cortical and striatal penumbral regions 7 days post-stroke, with many new activated Nestin+ astrocytes detected within the border zone contributing to glial scar formation at both 7 and 14 days post stroke (Figure 4G–L). Here, GFAP is linked to stroke disorder.
