MAPT and Alzheimer disease: Transgenic flies expressing human Aβ42 or tau ectopically developed late-onset neuronal degeneration and had a shortened lifespan [10, 11]. Drosophila AD models present various easily visible and quantifiable phenotypes such as eye degeneration, developmental defects, shortened lifespan, locomotor defects, increased oxidative stress sensitivity, and learning and memory defects, which make it suitable for in vivo genetic screening (Figure 1).
