Two major pattern recognition receptor (PRR) systems can recognize the presence of viral infection to mount an immune response: Toll-like receptors (TLRs) are endosomal pattern recognition receptors (PRR); and retinoic acid inducible gene-I (RIG-I)-like receptors (RLRs) were identified as cytosolic receptors for intracellular dsRNA sensing [2], [3].
