FMO5 and diabetes mellitus: In any case, in these “in vivo” studies it has been demonstrated that streptozotocin-induced diabetes causes an impairment of endothelium-dependent [40, 41] and endothelium-independent vasodilation [41] and increases NADPH oxidase activity and expression and superoxide production in aorta [40, 41], the last phenomenon being prevented by the incubation of aortic rings with PKC inhibitors and by their “in vivo” administration [40].
