So far, our finding of high SUR most pronounced in nontreated depressed patients with HCV is remarkable because recent in vivo neuroimaging studies in patients with major depression (drug-free for at least 3 weeks) showed significantly higher binding potentials of more specific SERT radioligands such as [11C]-DASB than the known nonselective [125I]-β-CIT in defined brain regions relative to healthy control subjects [36, 37].
