Glutamate activity in PFC has been associated with schizophrenia in numerous human studies (Ben-Nathan et al., 1991, 1995; Neumann et al., 2000), and converging lines of evidence suggest that Grm3 in particular influences glutamate neurotransmission, PFC function, and risk for schizophrenia (Mann et al., 1997; Kinsley and Amory-Meyer, 2011). This evidence concerns the gene GRM3 and schizophrenia.
