The role of the fat body in invertebrates as a storage organ and immune mediator has been observed to be comparable to that of the adipose tissue in the vertebrates, the solution to obesity and obesity related complications therefore, may lie in further investigation of the role of the fat droplet proteomes in the control of lipolysis and lipid accumulation in the Drosophila especially the PAT proteins LSD 1 (Perilipin) LSD 2, and ADRP. The gene discussed is PLIN1; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
