Some studies found that human TLR4 is expressed in murine and human lipid-rich atherosclerotic plaques, including areas infiltrated by macrophages, and oxLDL but not native LDL induces up-regulation of TLR4 expression in macrophages, suggesting that TLR4 has a potential role in lipid-mediated proinflammatory signaling in atherosclerosis [24], [37]. The gene discussed is TLR4; the disease is atherosclerosis.
