The authors propose that APP, which also plays a role as coagulation inhibitor, is affected in APS [62] and that this leads to exposure of the brain to high levels of thrombin, that in turn causes consumption of coagulation inhibitors such as APP, and subsequent upregulation of APP synthesis that may determine an increased risk of developing Alzheimer's pathology [63]. The gene discussed is APP; the disease is autoimmune polyendocrinopathy.
