ALB and diabetes mellitus: Participants with lower total bilirubin levels were younger, female, non-Hispanic Black, current smokers, and not regular alcohol drinkers; they also had a higher prevalence of diabetes, with lower serum albumin, alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, uric acid and hemoglobin levels, but higher levels of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, C-reactive protein, alkaline phosphatase and total white blood cell counts.
