In order to bridge the gap, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), in collaboration with the Ministry of Health of Mozambique, created an intermediary-level HIV care center (the Referral Centre of Alto Mae [CRAM]) in Chamanculo Health District (CHD) in Maputo City to ensure access to specialized care for patients living with HIV who had complications (including those with low CD4 counts, with advanced clinical stage, with Kaposi sarcoma, and/or in need of second-line ART). The gene discussed is CD4; the disease is Kaposi's sarcoma.
