Two studies evaluating induction of kidney fibrosis by either UUO or protein overload show that the loss of TIMP-1 does not affect disease severity (Eddy et al., 2000; Kim et al., 2001), similar to the lack of an effect on lung fibrosis (Kim et al., 2005) but in contrast to its anti-fibrotic role in liver (Wang et al., 2011). This evidence concerns the gene TIMP1 and pulmonary fibrosis.
