POF, also known as premature menopause or premature ovarian insufficiency, is defined by the presence of menopausal-level serum follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) in women younger than 40 years [1–3]; the mean (±SD) age of natural menopause is 50 ± 4 years [4].
