Recently, researchers from the Dana–Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) and the Broad Institute described a high prevalence of FGFR1 amplification specifically in squamous NSCLC, with amplification of a region of chromosome segment 8p11-12 (which includes the FGFR1 gene) in 21% of squamous tumors versus 3% of adenocarcinomas (P < 0.001) 15. Here, FGFR1 is linked to adenocarcinoma.
