Although the exact function of TLR-4 genetic polymorphisms in colorectal carcinogenesis is still not well understood, on possible explanation is that mutations in the TLR-4 gene could decrease cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) expression, which is responsible for increasing commensal bacteria, thereby causing inflammation and leading to CRC [42]. The gene discussed is TLR4; the disease is colorectal carcinoma.
