Taken into account that PON1 is produced by the liver and chemerin also shows a high expression in this organ of rats and humans especially in non-alcoholic steatosis that is closely associated with obesity [5,48], it is tempting to speculate that chemerin might modify the synthesis of PON1 in the hepatocytes of the obese patients. Here, PON1 is linked to obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
