STAT3 mRNA expression has previously been reported to be associated with cisplatin resistance in many cancer types, including head and neck [46], small cell lung carcinoma [47], and human epidermoid cancer cells [48], in which the CRE/ATF binding elements in the STAT3 promoter were shown to be important for mediating cisplatin resistance.
